Ide Hill Society

Ide Hill, Kent, England

Welcome

Welcome to the Ide Hill Society website.

Ide Hill village lies four miles to the south-west of Sevenoaks at one of the highest points of the Greensand Ridge with views to the south over the Weald and north, over the parent parish of Sundridge and the Holmesdale valley, to the North Downs. It is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

In the surrounding district there are many houses of historical and architectural interest, notably Knole, Hever Castle, Chartwell and Penshurst Place, all of which are within a few miles of Ide Hill.

The terrain, which is in the Green Belt, consists of woodlands, much of it owned by the National Trust, and farmland, so that its traditional sources of employment are forestry and agriculture. Most of today's villagers commute for work to nearby towns or London, and the population of about 850 embraces a happy mix with a wide range of interests.

We encourage anybody with an interest in Ide Hill to join the Ide Hill Society. We hold lectures on local history and other topics of interest to our members. Our Society book, Ide Hill Past and Present, provides a complete history of Ide Hill and includes walks in the area.
